Grass sod was unrolled and placed together over the sidewalk covering the length of one city block. The grass was installed during the night to prevent pedestrian disturbance as well as to provide an early morning surprise to anyone passing by The pedestrian focus was no longer on concrete but an unexpected patch of green, simultaneously small and large, fragile and defiant.
The interaction of people with this piece and its inevitable deterioration was documented. After this project was finished the grass sod was recycled to create a new patch of green space in Brooklyn. Some of the sod was also distributed to the public to take home and plant.
